Wall-hung toilets can increase the appeal of a home, according to new research commissioned by Geberit, with 73% of homeowners saying a wall-hung toilet fitted as standard in a new home would be appealing.

Geberit’s research, which polled more than 5,000 UK homeowners, highlights the importance of bathroom design in choosing a new home. More than eight in 10 (84%) said a modern bathroom is important to them when choosing a home, and more than half (56%) said a newbuild home with wall-hung features would be more attractive to them.

Two-thirds (66%) agreed that national housebuilders should include modern features as standard in their new homes.

Wall-hung WCs are recognised in the trade as a space-saving alternative to traditional close coupled toilets, creating the illusion of space by lifting the toilet footprint off the floor. They also offer hygiene and cleaning benefits, as well as easier installation in awkward spaces.

Now, Geberit’s research proves that the benefits are attractive to homeowners too. Almost half of respondents (43%) associate ‘modern, premium bathroom design’ and ‘space-saving aesthetics’ with wall-hung toilets, while 83% of those with a wall-hung toilet would recommend one.

Sophie Weston, Head of Marketing at Geberit, said: “Despite figures showing that bathroom spaces are generally getting smaller, homeowners increasingly see their bathroom as a sanctuary and it’s easy to see the role of bathroom design in creating that relaxing aura. Wall-hung toilets have become a popular choice to help support design goals.”
