As the trend for colour in the bathroom continues to make its mark, Katy Olsen, Brand Manager at BAGNODESIGN, explores how installers can use it to leave a lasting impression in every project.
Bathroom trends come and go, but we believe the trend for colourful bathrooms, which has certainly gained momentum over the last few years, as having real longevity. Providing a stark contrast to the neutral, minimal schemes that previously featured in many commercial and residential bathrooms, a new generation of designs are embracing a varied colour palette, which is being used to create characterful, personalised interiors.
In recent years the psychological effect of colour has been more widely recognised, and it is increasingly being used to create relaxing and invigorating bathroom environments that are a pleasure to use and spend time in.
This is true across both domestic and commercial spaces. In the hospitality sector, particularly in hotels, guests are looking for luxurious experiences in wellness-focussed spaces. Here, chrome taps and showers, which have long reigned supreme, are increasingly being replaced by a wide variety of brassware finishes.
Strong and stylish
For a long time, some installers shied away from coloured brassware as their powder-coated finish often wasn’t durable enough to withstand frequent use. Scratching, fading and damage caused by cleaning and general, everyday usage made them less viable options, particularly in high-traffic environments.
However, advances in technology have really opened the door to colour when it comes to bathroom brassware and the new generation of finishes are designed to prioritise style as well as durability and easy maintenance.
BAGNODESIGN, for example, has a number of brassware ranges available in high-strength coatings from Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) and electroplated, to the new Armour coating, which creates ultra-durable finishes that are resistant to fingerprints, tarnishing, corrosion and wear.
Metallics of the moment
One of the many reasons that PVD coatings are popular is that they result in a much more hardwearing, flawless finish that won’t fade over time. PVD finishes can elevate any space and also go hand in hand with the spa bathroom concept. We’re seeing more demand for warm-toned PVD finishes such as our Soft Burgundy and Oyster, which blend with other materials such as stone and timber to create spa-inspired design schemes.
Armour technology
BAGNODESIGN’s durable new Armour Coating has been used to create our latest brassware ranges. The Toko Flavours comes in six unique, colourful finishes that include Lip Gloss, Blueberry and Mandarin, while the new Studio 316 collection seamlessly blends Nordic minimalism with exceptional craftmanship.
An advanced finish that was originally developed for heavy-duty products used in the military, aerospace and automative industries, the Armour finish has been tested in both lab and real-world conditions to ensure the highest level of resistance to corrosion and chemicals, making the products coated with it suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.
